Duarte Co-Sponsors HR 5790, Prioritizing American Agriculture

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman John Duarte (CA-13) announced his cosponsorship of the Prioritizing Offensive Agricultural Disputes and Enforcement Act, a bill which addresses the trade challenges and barriers our American agricultural industries face internationally.

“Valley farmers are hurting from unfair farm subsidies abroad,” said Rep. Duarte. “We need to hold trading partners accountable at the WTO for a level global agricultural playing field so American farmers and exporters can stay competitive.”

The bill establishes a joint task force with the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to develop more proactive and assertive strategies within the World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute settlement framework. The primary focus of this task force will be to address foreign agricultural policies that hurt American farmers and agricultural exporters like those in the Central Valley. It also directs specific attention to India’s agricultural market.
