WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman John Duarte (CA-13) issued a statement supporting Speaker Kevin McCarthy:

"I stand with Speaker Kevin McCarthy and condemn Representative Matt Gaetz's efforts to oust him from the Speakership. This is a disruptive maneuver that delays us from getting real legislative work done, threatening to destabilize the House of Representatives, and sending a troubling message to the American people. We need to prioritize passing a budget for the next fiscal year, not engaging in political games and self-interested agendas.

Speaker McCarthy brought together Democrats and Republicans to ensure our government remained open and functioning to serve the American people. I urge all my colleagues from both sides of the aisle in the House of Representatives to reject any attempts by Representative Gaetz to remove the Speaker of the House. Instead, let us focus on the important work at hand" said Rep. Duarte.
