Duarte Issues Statement After Speakership Vote

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman John Duarte (CA-13) issued a statement following the floor vote to elect a new Speaker of the House.

“This is not our house, it’s the people’s house. We owe it to our constituents to get back to the work at hand. When the country and world needs us at our best, the US House of Representatives is at a standstill. We need to pass appropriations bills to fund our government or we will face another shutdown. We need to get aid to Israel to help them combat Hamas’ terrorism. The list goes on. But we can’t do anything unless we have a Speaker.

This race is not the place for Representatives to pursue their individual agendas. Rather, we should be focused on the common interests of the American people. Let’s unite as a conference and pick a Speaker so that we can go back to conducting legislation on behalf of the people. It’s what we were all sent here to do,” said Rep. Duarte.
