Duarte Votes to Impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman John Duarte (CA-13) issued the following statement regarding his vote to impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

"Today, I voted in favor of impeaching Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. Under his leadership, our southern border has plunged into a crisis with an influx of fentanyl and cartel-related crime spilling through the border and across the United States," said Rep. Duarte.

"The House Committee on Homeland Security has examined the causes, costs, and consequences of the border crisis in an extensive year-long investigation, and the evidence overwhelmingly points to Mayorkas’ refusal to comply with current federal immigration laws passed by Congress as the cause of the border crisis. Additionally, the evidence shows that Mayorkas has breached the trust of the American public by breaking his oath to “guard the border of the United States.” Therefore, after a careful consideration of these articles of impeachment and the seriousness of impeaching a federal officer, I firmly believe the threshold of “high crimes and misdemeanors” for impeachment has been met.

This crisis is killing our sons and daughters. Let’s close the border now."
