Congressman John Duarte Announces 2024 Congressional Art Competition

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman John Duarte (CA-13) announced Clarissa Salas as the winner of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition for California’s 13th Congressional District. Works by Madyson Daniels and Eliana Gloria placed second and third, respectively.


“Each year, the Congressional Art Competition reveals the remarkable artistic talent and dedication of students inour community,"said Congressman John Duarte.“Clarissas' painting will be wonderful to showcase here in the U.S. Capitol and I look forward to seeing it as I come to work each day! Congratulations to Madyson and Eliana on finishing second and third with their amazing pieces of artwork as well, and thanks to all the students who participated in this event."


WINNER: "Panaderia" by Clarissa Sales

Clarissa, under the mentorship of her art teacher, Sarah Hill, portrays her hometown of Merced in "Panaderia," a vibrant painting created with alcohol markers and colored pencils, showcasing a Mexican bakery scene.

SECOND PLACE: "The Beauty Within" by Madyson Daniels

Second place went to Madyson Daniels, a student at Central Valley High School. Her acrylic painting, “The Beauty Within,” was completed under the guidance of her art teacher, Kari Copley, and will be displayed in the Congressman’s D.C. office.

THIRD PLACE: "Soulful vs. Soulless" by Eliana Gloria

This year’s third place winner is Eliana Gloria, a student at Modesto High School. Her acrylic painting, “Soulful vs. Soulless,” was completed under the guidance of her art teacher, Debra Drake, and will be displayed in the Congressman’s district office.

  • First place winner Clarissa will have the opportunityto visit Washington, where she will meet withCongressman Duarte and witness her artwork on display in the U.S. Capitol complex.
